Be awed by Victoria's largest coastal wilderness area in Wilsons Promontory National Park. Affectionately known as 'The Prom', it is one of the state's best-loved parks – and with good reason. This 50,000-hectare reserve is threaded with a labyrinth of walking tracks that showcase all manner of magical realms sheltering abundant native wildlife. Wilsons Promontory is a refuge for an array of native wildlife including kangaroos, emus, wombats, echidnas, and vividly plumed birds like rosellas. Visit in spring to experience spectacular displays of wildflowers including orchids, wattle, heathland, and other species. The drive from the park entrance to the Tidal River settlement is scenic and is well-signposted, with car parks, beaches, and bushland accessible via side roads. However, the best way to enjoy the spectacular scenery is on one of the many walking trails throughout the peninsula.

Shallow Inlet Marine and Coastal Park is located 2.5km from Sandy Point and is an idillic location to relax or engage in some adventure spots. As you drive your car out onto the sand you will find a tranquil setting looking across the water to the mountain ranges of Wilson’s Promontory. A great and safe place to swim, explore or go fishing. Those into wind-propelled adventure spots such as kite surfing and windsurfing delight in the channeled winds that come off the sand dunes creating consistent winds whilst keeping the waters calm.

Waratah Hills is located on the road to the iconic Wilsons Promontory National Park Waratah Hills is one of the southern most vineyards on the Australian mainland. The cool, maritime climate wine region is acknowledged as one of the best Pinot Noir producing areas in Australia. Owners’ Judy and Neil Travers simple philosophy is to do everything possible to produce wine of the highest quality. Their artisan approach to detail involves hand picking by clones in small batches at just the right intensity of ripeness. Come and experience some of south Gippsland’s finest wines and treat yourself to lunch at our cellar door.

Basia Mille is a boutique winery producing estate Pinots. It is situated in South Gippsland on the sensational Prom Coast, overlooking Waratah Bay, the islands of Bass Strait, and Wilson’s Promontory.

It has magical views and a great cellar which is open to the public on weekends from September through to June.

Day walks at the Prom. There are many walks around the Prom. The walks provide a perfect opportunity to view native wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and wombats as well as some spectacular views.

Commencing at the Darby River car park, a sandy track follows Darby River as it winds its way to the coast. The small exposed beach is embraced at each end by rocky headlands. Please stay on the beach and avoid climbing fragile sand dunes.

Overnight Hikes

Most of the northern part of Wilsons Promontory is classified as a wilderness zone. In order to preserve the area’s natural values there are few facilities. If you don't want to stay overnight, there are short walks at Vereker Outlook, Prom Wildlife Walk, and Millers Landing.
