Lilly Pilly Gully loop Walk, Tidal River
The Lilly Pilly Gully Walk was the first walk our family decided to take and what an awesome introduction to Wilsons Promontory it was. We had a fun, beautiful and serene experience walking through the stringybark forest before gradually entering the lush rainforest.
The Lilly Pilly Circuit is one of the most popular shorter walks at the Prom starting at Lilly Pilly Carpark climbing across the southern face of Mount Bishop. It has some uneven surfaces but for the most part it`s the trail is gentle and an easy walk compared to some of the rockier and steeper walks Wilsons Promontory offers.
It`s about 5,8 km long and takes about 2 hours returning to the carpark. If you`re up for adding another 3 km you can extend the walk by visiting the Mount Bishop Summit. It`s a great walk to do on a really warm day or if you`re walking in the middle of the day as you can get a relief from the sun with the tracks many shaded areas and trees.
If you`re walking with kids, it`s a great walk to do as the frequent change of scenery, variety of plants, trees and birdlife will keep them engaged and motivated focusing in the journey instead of the end of the hike. When reaching the half mark of the walk there is a Boardwalk circuit that we highly recommend taking the time doing.
The circuit offers lots of fun facts about the local flora and fauna. Did you know? Lilly Pilly is a rainforest tree with red fruit native to Australia and South East Asia sometimes called the “Australian Cherry”. Don`t forget to wear proper footwear, a sunhat and lots of water. Enjoy the walk!
